Youth in Action Project: Voice of Women in Europe

Youth in Action is the Programme the European Union has set up for young people. It aims to inspire a sense of active European citizenship, solidarity and tolerance among young Europeans and to involve them in shaping the Union’s future.

Four organisations have developed a partnership called Voice of Women in Europe to facilitate access of young women to media. The partners are Antxeta Irratia, (Basque Country), Radio Oloron (France), West Dublin Access Radio WDAR (Ireland) and nearfm (Ireland) and we have chosen the Sub-Action 1.3. Youth Democracy Projects Youth, which support young people’s participation in the democratic life of their local, regional or national community, and at international level.

The Project involves two partners meetings, the first of which took place in Dublin on 30 January 2013 and a final evaluation meeting. There was national training plan, and sixteen women got involved in the QQI Level 3 on Media Expression training delivered by WDAR and NEARfm , and fifteen of them obtained their certification.

The training involved 30 hours training, and specific training on Audio Digital Editing, sound engineering, interviewing and research… and it took place in the Exchange Dublin, the Collective Art Centre in Temple Bar, Dublin, and in the studios of WDAR and nearfm.

There has also been a partnership training workshop, where four of the participant women by partners received training on a specific methodology used by the women organisation La Morada, in Santiago de Chile, to empower women and training them in the use of media.

Part of the project involves the production of radio programmes from a women perspective. Out new women programme will start broadcasting at the end of September.
