SHANE O’CURRY joins Eoin Drinan beginning to explain how the iReport, available online, acts as a national system to report incidents of a racist nature.
Shane says the information is not necessarily being reported to the Gardai but helps to paint a picture of demographic trends and rate of occurrence around the city. Monthly reports are issued as a yardstick. The hope is that iReport will help raise awareness of particular problem areas at a national level.
Shane says the system will also work as a way for the various anti racism support groups to build a profile of incidents that can be used as evidence when lobbying for racist problems to be addressed in specific areas.
