Traditional Music from the EU concerts in Dublin

Noel McGuinness is joined in studio by PAUL LOUGHRAN and a number of musicians from the EU. It begins with a performance from the Hartz Mountain Yodellers. The musicians are in Dublin to perform a series of concerts which Paul gives all of the details for including a live broadcast on Near FM and subsequent broadcasts on a number of community radio stations around Europe.

Helene from Radio Corax in Halle, Germany shares information about the art of yodeling and how it is a tradition of certain areas, while serving a purpose as being heard over a large distance. Helene goes on to offer information on how people in Germany learn to yodel. She speaks of the existence of traditional yodeling and also more contemporary compositions.

Zotan and Katarina, musicians from Hungary are also in studio. Gabbo from a station in Budapest, Hungary introduces the musicians and the musicians play a traditional Hungarian piece. We hear of an Irish group called the Sweeney men who play a similar sounding style of music to the Hungarian piece. They go on to discuss the flute styled instrument used in the piece.

Paul speaks of his love for hearing new instruments and experiencing new styles of music. They carry on to discuss some uncommon instruments they have encountered.

The interview concludes with the Hartz Mountain Yodellers performing a second piece “When you are in the Hartz mountains”.
